It's not often a WPIAL regular-season basketball game is a sellout. But if anyone wants to go to the New Castle at Beaver Falls boys contest tomorrow night and doesn't have a ticket, forget it.
Beaver Falls athletic director Jim Cardone said this afternoon the game is officially a sellout. No tickets will be sold tomorrow. Beaver Falls plays home games at the middle school, which is right next to the high school. It is an old gymnasium, but a great place to watch a game. Especially a big game witha packed house.
The place is one of my favorite places to watch a high school game. Wooden bleachers sit on cement steps and seating is in a horseshoe. You walk down a ramp to enter the gym, almost like you're entering a pit. Pictures of great Beaver Falls teams hang on the walls. There is just an aura about the place with all the great teams and players who have played there.
Carbone said the gym holds 1,350 and the place will be rocking tomorrow night. This is one of the best games so far in the WPIAL season. Beaver Falls is the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked team in WPIAL Class AAA and New Castle No. 3. Beaver Falls is 11-1 and New Castle 12-0.
