Tonight's Post-Gazette Game of the Week is North Allegheny vs. Central Catholic at CMU. I will be there, so follow @mwhiteburgh on Twitter for updates. Follow @PGVarsityXtra for updates on all games. If you have an update, note or photo, send to @PGVarsityXtra with #wpial. Now, for some predictions and notes on Week 2 ....
They receive a lot at Frazier
Look at the top receivers in the WPIAL and two of the top three are from the same school.
Frazier's Josh Cox is No. 2 with 15 catches for 166 yards. Teammate J.D. Celsaschi is third with 13 receptions for 204 yards. They are just behind Penn Hills' Julian Major, who is No. 1 with 17 catches.
The Frazier duo catch passes from Chris Pierce, who has thrown for 536 yards.
Predictions
Purchased a dozen predictions at the deli today, and here they are for the top games.
Last week's record: 10-2
Season: 18-6
Central Catholic over North Allegheny - I don't think North Allegheny would beat Central Catholic with a healthy team. Some key North Allegheny players are injured. Central Catholic QB Troy Fisher did not play last week because of an injury, but is expected back. Who will be a playmaker for North Allegheny?
McKeesport over Armstrong - Armstrong's Zane Dudek is averaging more than 200 yards rushing a game. That came against Karns City and Moon. Mckeesport ain't Karns City and Moon. Dudek might get 100 yards, but McKeesport will get the win.
Other big games:
Pine-Richland over Seneca Valley; Mt. Lebanon over Hempfield; West Allegheny over North Hills; New Castle over Highlands; Aliquippa over Beaver; Mount Pleasant over South Park; Seton-LaSalle over Valley; Steel Valley over Avonworth; Shenango over Sto-Rox; Westinghouse over Perry.
