From the Thursday 1 vs. 2 showdown between Montour and Central Valley. Montour is ranked No. 2 in Class AAA and Central Valley No. 1.

FINAL: MONTOUR 28, CENTRAL VALLEY 27

10:23 p.m. - Foster is stopped on two-point conversion!!!!! Knocked out of bounds.

10:22 p.m. - Central Valley scores. Foster carries twice. Second one 2-yard run. And what's this. Central Valley going for win. They are going for two points.

10:20 p.m. - Both teams get the ball at the 10 in OT. Montour scores on its first play. Greer 10-yard TD pass to Cole Macek. Dearth PAT and it's 28-21.

OVERTIME: MONTOUR 21, CENTRAL VALLEY 21

10:10 p.m. - What a game. Montour gets ball, moves 68 yards for TD. Tynen Greer and Devin Wilson make big plays. Greer scores TD on 4-yard run with 32 seconds left. Dearth kick. Tied, 21-21.

10:02 p.m. - Timeout. 2:14 left. Central Valley third-and-8. CV leading, 21-14.

Going to Wildcat offense was difference in this game. I'd say 75 percent of plays second half in Wildcat.

9:59 p.m. - Montour QB Rosinsky fumbles ball away at Central Valley 9. Now a little more than four minutes left.

9:54 p.m. - Questionable call. On third-and-seven, Robert Foster runs fake punt. Stopped 1 yard short of first down.

9:47 p.m. - Fourth-and-goal from the 1, Ryan Mihelcic scores on 1-yard run. Nate Dearth PAT and it's 21-14 with 8:34 left.

I don't know if Montour can stop Central Valley this half, though.

9:43 p.m. - Montour facing third-and-goal from the 2.

9:39 p.m. - Central Valley 145 yards offense third quarter. Had 69 total in first half.

9:38 p.m. - Montour not going down easily. 58-yard pass from Ryan Mihelcic to Lucas Parrish puts ball at CV 22.

Montour continuing to use three quarterbacks. Not one has been terrific and not one has been bad.

END OF THE QUARTER: CENTRAL VALLEY 21, MONTOUR 7

9:34 p.m. - Montour turns ball over on downs at Central Valley 39. First play and Anthony Williams catches 61-yard TD pass from Nate Climo. PAT good. Wow. Totally different team this half. Central Valley now leads, 21-7. Williams has been big lift with three catches for 87 yards this half.

9:25 p.m. - CENTRAL VALLEY HAS TAKEN LEAD

After Montour's miscue, Central Valley goes back to the "wildcat" and moves 23 yards for score. Foster scores again on 2-yard run. Taylor kick. 14-7 with 3:44 left in third.

9:22 p.m. - Robert Foster is in a different world athletically than anyone else on this field.

9:19 p.m. - Oh-oh. Mistake by Montour. Spartans fail to cover short kickoff. Central Valley's Skyler Cron recovers at the Montour 23.

9:17 p.m. - Totally different offense second half for Central Valley. Robert Foster running out of wildcat. Jordan Whitehead running out of wildcat. Trojans move 71 yards in 13 plays for a score on first possession of second half. Foster scores on 1-yard run. PAT by Elliot Taylor and it's 7-7 with 5:26 left in the third.

9:14 p.m. - Foster back in. Gains 6 to the 13.

9:13 p.m. - Central Valley on move first drive of second half. At Montour 29. Foster out with cramps.

9:10 p.m. - First time tonight. Robert Foster runs ball out of "Wildcat" and now he comes out of game with apparent cramp.

9:06 p.m. - LIGHTNING DELAY JUST ABOUT OVER. Game will start in a minute.

8:36 p.m. - LIGHTNING DELAY

In press box, we're hearing 15 minutes.

HALFTIME: MONTOUR 7, CENTRAL VALLEY 0

Montour is dominating, but leads only by a touchdown. Montour in first half had 10 first downs, 141 yards rushing, 59 passing for a total of 200. Central Valley has only two first downs, 28 yards rushing, 41 passing for a total of 69.

Robert Foster (CV) three catches for 35 yards. Devin Wilson (M) no catches at receiver, but has carried seven times for 47 yards. Central Valley getting beat on the lines. Montour's run support from linebackers and DBs has been excellent.

By the way, Robert Foster will be our cover story in tomorrow's Varsity Xtra section. One of the most highly recruited receivers in WPIAL history. He is Robert Foster III. Let's steal a nickname here. I think he should now be: RF3

Whatcha think?

7:59 p.m. - Robert Foster big-time WR recruit. But if he doesn't make it as WR, how bout punter? Three punts, 45.0 average.

7:52 p.m. - Big time showdown. On third-and-nine at the 13, Montour QB Ryan Mihelcic throws fade pattern into end zone to Devin Wilson. He's defended by Robert Foster. Two of the best in the WPIAL. Ball in the air, tipped, both players fall to the ground and Foster comes up with the ball on his chest. INT. 2:50 left in half and Montour still leads, 7-0.

7:49 p.m. - Montour driving again. Inside the 15. Really, Montour has dominated this game.

7:41 p.m. - Wilson with a 23-yard run for Montour. He plays everywhere - receiver, RB, making all kind of plays on defense. Already knew he was good, but he really impresses even more.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: MONTOUR 7, CENTRAL VALLEY 0

Central Valley with the ball at its own 48, third-and-nine.

7:26 p.m. - Tynen Greer was third QB in Montour's rotating QB system, and throws 39-yard TD pass to Justin Hill. Nate Dearth kick is good and it's 7-0 Montour with 2:10 left in first quarter.

7:20 p.m. - Montour's third series and third different QB. First Mihelcic. Then Rosinsky. Now Greer.

Devin Wilson now at halfback for Montour.

7:19 p.m. - Robert Foster just had a 55-yard punt - with great hang time, too.

7:18 p.m. - Great matchup on most Central Valley plays. Devin Wilson going one-on-one against Robert Foster.

7:16 p.m. - And on Montour's first play after INT, Max Rosinsky throws a pass through teammate's hands, intercepted by CValley's Mark Vula.

7:14 p.m. - And on second play, Montour's Devin Wilson jumps route, intercepts. Intended for Robert Foster.

7:13 p.m. - Great run support by Montour's Devin Wilson on first play for CV. Loss of 3 yards.

7:11 p.m. - OK, the Montour side is starting to fill up. Students are here, some with painted bodies. Game underway. Montour gets one first down and now will punt.

7:06 p.m. - Brad Tokar one of the officials. A 4,000-yard rusher during his days at Fort Cherry.

7:03 p.m. - Central Valley going to the special Carolina Blue jerseys tonight. Usually wear navy blue at home.

6:57 p.m. - Maybe because the game is on TV, but where is Montour crowd? Their side of stands maybe only half full. Spartans usually have a pretty good sutdent section. Where is it?

6:53 p.m. - Is Central Valley a little like Wrigley Field? A house sits near the end zone with a deck outside. People sitting on the deck and watching the game (see below). Wonder if they charge to sit on that deck?

Central_Valley_deck

6:49 p.m. - Craig Wolfley with a slightly new look this year. Has a nice mullet going.

6:41 p.m. - I did not see Central Valley play in person last year (just TV). Jordan Whithead started at DB as a freshman and made all-conference. Now he's the team's starting halfback. After seeing him play basketball last year, watching him warm up and looking at his athletic body, I bet he'll have his share of Division I college offers by the time his sophomore year ends.

6:40 p.m. - Game time about 25 minutes away. The game is being televised by Root Sports. That means kickoff might be about 7:05. Rob King here doing play by play. Craig Wolfley doing color. King here talking a lot about his golf game. I've seen it. He's a stud - or at least used to be. Might be too old now. Ha ha.
