Alex Kirilloff had a terrific start to his first summer of professional baseball. But he was hurting at the finish.
Kirilloff, who played at Plum High School, was a first-round pick of the Minnesota Twins in June's Major League Baseball draft, and spent the summer playing with the Elizabethton (Tenn.) Twins, a rookie level team. Krilloff did so well that he was selected the Appalachian League Player of the Year and was recently named by MLB.com as the 100th top prospect in all of minor-league baseball. That's pretty darn good for an 18-year-old rookie. The Appalachian League included many former college players and some who had minor-league experience already.
But Kirilloff didn't play the final week of the season with Elizabethton because of an injury. Elizabethton's season is complete.
Fedko to UCONN
The University of Connecticut will have a mini Fedko Zone in a few years.
Kyler Fedko, a junior baseball player at Vincentian in the WPIAL, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut. Kyler is a second baseman/shortstop. A year ago, Fedko's brother, Christian, committed to UCONN. Christian is a senior shortstop at Vincentian.
Kyler hit .611 last year with four home runs and 23 RBIs and helped Vincentian win a PIAA Class A championship.
Kyler (pictured) recently played in the Perfect Game Underclass All-American game in San Diego.
The Fedkos are the sons of former television sportscaster John Fedko. Connecticut made the NCAA baseball tournament last season.
